Dr. Jeff Currie is global head of Commodities Research in Global Investment Research (GIR) at Goldman Sachs, where he has held various positions since 1996. He will discuss with us the energy markets, recent trends in the oil industry, what can be learned from the reopening of China’s economy, and developments that have arisen from the COVID-19 epidemic. As Dr. Currie notes when discussing the changes in the industry, oil creates globalization and facilitates social contact, neither of which can happen at the moment. As we move forward, he cautions that we will likely see changes in how we travel and interact that could change the industry for years to come.
Mark Penn is the Founder, President and Managing Partner of The Stagwell Group, a private equity fund and previously held senior executive roles with Microsoft, WPP, and senior strategic roles on electoral campaigns for President Bill Clinton, Senator Hillary Clinton, and Prime Minister Tony Blair. Mark Penn runs through recent polling on a number of questions about social issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic as well as questions related to the upcoming election. In discussing the latter, he notes that for roughly 11 months, President Trump had been slowly improving his job approval rating. Since his press conference suggesting the use of clorox as a treatment for coronavirus, though, his approval rating has been going down. He is seen as increasingly partisan as Joe Biden’s approval rating rises.
